Dr. Jewel Jackson is a dancer, choreographer, cultural educator and the Artistic Director of African Soul International. For more than 28 years, she has dedicated her life to the preservation and evolution of African diasporic dance.
Her teaching blends tradition, technique and joy — creating a space where culture, community and movement change lives.

Questions
Do I need experience?
No! Whether you're taking your very first class or have years of experience, there's a place for you at the Black Dance Academy. Our instructors provide guidance for every skill level.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. Bare feet are welcome, or you may wear soft dance shoes if preferred. Don't forget to bring water!
Can I book individual classes?
Absolutely! You're welcome to try any Drop-In class throughout the Fall season to explore different dance styles and instructors. If you discover your favorite class and want to commit to your weekly practice, our Full Semester Enrollment gives you the best value and guarantees your spot all season long.
Can I take different dance styles?
Absolutely! Explore West African, Afro-Cuban, Afro-Brazilian, Afro Fusion, Rites of Passage, and Belly Dance. You're welcome to experience different styles throughout the season.
Is there parking?
Yes! Free on-site parking is available at the ASI Cultural Arts Center, 4302 Crenshaw Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90008.
Is the Saturday Class free?
No. The Saturday Class is a regular paid Fall Dance Academy class. Please check our current Fall Dance Academy schedule for the class time and registration details.
What if I miss a class?
No problem! Simply reserve another class that fits your schedule. We offer classes throughout the week, making it easy to continue your dance journey.
Will there be live drumming?
Yes! Many of our classes feature live West African drumming, creating an authentic, energetic, and immersive cultural experience.
What is Funky Fridays?
Funky Fridays is a free monthly social gathering for educators featuring music, karaoke, community, and good vibes. It's our way of celebrating and appreciating the people who inspire the next generation.
How long is the Full Semester Presale available?
The Full Semester Presale is available for one week only from August 7-Ausgut 14. After the presale ends, classes return to the regular rate.
What does Full Semester enrollment include?
Full Semester enrollment reserves your spot in one weekly class for the entire Fall Season. If you'd like to attend multiple class styles, simply enroll in each class separately.
